Hugo Siegmeth Quintet
Featuring Bobby Shew
Known as a composer and arranger, Hugo Siegmeth, profiled in diverse jazz formations, and having been on stage in Germany, Austria, France and in the USA, for example, with Clark Terry, Claudio Roditi, Bobby Shew, Al Porcino and Peter Herbholzheimer. It is no wonder that the only 32 years old Hugo Siegmeth is already a demanded man! Whether as a precise blower, unique soloist or imaginative composer: he is always convincing.
The debut CD "Live at the Jazzclub Unterfahrt" exclusively presents originals of band leader Hugo Siegmeth, played in a quintet with Bobby Shew (trumpet, flh), Tizian Jost (piano), Harry Scharf (bass) and Martin Probst (drums). The quintet impresses with its natural dramaturgy, full of sounds. The special class of the "Hugo Siegmeth Quintet" lies not in the rigid measure but in melodious lines and in the tense way, in which the musical emotion is represented. Once the melodies seem relaxed, then again introverted, withdrawn in inner contemplation.
The dreamy, visionary "Kaul" for example, inspired by a pond in the home Banat, draws musical circles through green seaweed structures, floating in the water and exposing their secrets only to the one, who draws near with appropriate care. With the title "Zigeuner", tenderly introduced by bass player Harry Scharf, Hugo Siegmeth impressively proves his quality as a saxophone player. He plays in a wonderful silken sound, a perfect timing while improvising and in clear formulations.
